The Joy of Research

When Erin and I began the process of creating wellpdx, we began it based on the following hypothoses:

1. There is not a cohesive community of wellness practitioners in Portland (or anywhere in the States), which has lead to a feeling of scarcity of patients/clients and a sense of isolation in our practices.

2. The public does not access non-allopathic care (or even allopathic care outside of the insurance paradigm) in greater numbers because they are either not aware of it, do not have enough information to feel comfortable with it, and/or don't know how or where to find qualified practitioners.

3. Creating a true community of wellness practitioners in Portland will not only bolster everyone's individual practices but will create a true resource for the public which will increase the health and wellbeing of the Portland community.

Recently, our business consultant has demanded that we test these hypothoses as well as we can. I've made it through the first round of reading to find that our first two suspicions are indeed confirmed by the small amount of sociological research available. The third can only be confirmed with time, I suppose.

As we continue to move forward, we are seeking connections with any businesses, collectives, groups, etc. who have the same goal in mind of uniting wellness practitioners and educating the general public about care outside of the current allopathic model. Please feel free to contact us if you have anyone you think we should talk to!
