First Aid for Sugar Overload

Abby Fammartino, Chef at Abby's Table

Happy Halloween!!!

This is one of my favorite holidays, not because of the candy but because it's an excuse to dress up in costume!

But let's be honest. Halloween is a day where you get to be someone else, both in costume and in consumption. All those little treats! Candy of all kinds! Temptation and nostalgia loom close.

So in case you decide to eat out of character rather than just wear a wig, here are some remedies to help balance the negative effects of sugar (spaciness, tiredness, bloating, dizziness, anxiety, and the list goes on:)

1. Umeboshi Plums: These powerful alkalizing plums reign from Japan and are a known cure for sugar intoxication (as

Clean, Joyous Summer Eating

Abby's Table, Chef & Owner

There is nothing better than a blackberry picked straight off the bush. Deliciously sweet like candy, naturally gluten free, dairy free, soy free, corn free....

Summer is the best season to truly appreciate and embody my favorite food philosophy: clean, joyous eating.

Each day I prepare, with love, food that is as friendly to the most number of people possible. This means catering to a host of food allergies, sensitivities, and special diets, both old and new. It is easy to see the NO in all of those restrictions. Which makes perfect sense! Who says it's easy to give up all the things we get used to in life, all the convenience of packaged foods, quick lunches and to go dinners? Like a deer in headlights, it

The Final Cure for Disease

Gianna Piccardo, ERYT, Yoga Therapist and Ayurvedic Lifesytle Consultant

Apart from that inner Self or higher nature all things are a deviation, disturbance, or disease. Until we learn to rest in our true nature we are prone to all the processes of decay and degeneration inherent in the external world. Hence the only final cure for disease is Self-knowledge.

Ayurvedic wisdom honors Self-knowledge as the final cure for all disease. Notice this is “self” with a capital “S”, the Self that embodies not who we think we are, what we call ourselves, or we do for a living, but instead the

Stress Management & Acupuncture + DeStress Kit

Rebecca Hurwood, Licensed Acupuncturist

Hmm... have you noticed a theme on this blog so far? Stress, stress and more stress! I can honestly say that 80% of what I treat as an Acupuncturist is either directly related to or being aggravated by stress. I would venture to guess that in many healthcare fields today, this is the case. So the question becomes - how do we learn to manage stress effectively in our lives? What tools do we have available to us for stress management?

As an Acupuncturist I feel especially lucky, because Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have wonderful tools available. Acupuncture itself can help rebalance your Qi treating both the short term and long term effects of stress. It can
resolve stress related pain, tension, and digestive disorders as well as bringing your body to a state where stress does not physically affect you so strongly in the future.

Acupuncture can also be a quick route to reaching a meditative state, and for people inexperienced with meditation, is
