Kyra Ahlstrom

I practice Structural Integration in Portland, OR. I help people feel more at ease in their bodies, with a sense of lightness, less pain, and a better understanding of their own patterns and what to do about them. Clients come for a range of services, from one-time sessions to a full 12 series.

My Approach

I typically see clients once a week or every other week for the course of treatment. We determine together what to address in your body and you participate in each session through movement and breath. The 12-series is a comprehensive, full-body sequence of sessions. Although pain relief and postural re-patterning are common results, the true value of this work lies in a systematic, whole body opening, and subsequent integration. This physical work often has echoes on the emotional or even spiritual levels of being; clients often report feeling lightness, stability, and a sense of profound ease in their bodies. Single sessions or shorter series are also available, depending on your needs. For example, most people who see me for motor vehicle accident pain relief come for 4-6 weeks, and we focus on specific areas as necessary.

My Background

I grew up in the desert of Santa Fe, NM, and have a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. I’ve been a licensed massage therapist since May 2010, and in 2013 I was certified in KMI Structural Integration. I taught yoga weekly from 2008-2014 and completed two teacher trainings and many workshops over the years. I’m not teaching at this time, but I maintain a dedicated asana practice. The movement and anatomy background from my yoga study and practice is a wonderful companion for bodywork. I attended a transformative human dissection workshop with Gil Hedley in 2015. I've taken workshops with Til Luchau and continue to study myofascial balancing with Lauren Christman and Richard Polishuk.
